In the May elections, Let’s build on our recent success

In Dukinfield, the Green Party vote share went up by 20% between 2018 and 2019.
In Ashton Waterloo, the Green Party vote share went up by a massive 32% between 2018 and 2019.
The Green Party is making a difference. Where we lead others follow. Most parties recognise the need for urgent action on climate change and are adopting policies to suit. To make a real difference however, we need real Greens in power, whose policies begin with consideration for the environment and a sustainable economy, not added on as an afterthought to win a few votes.
Let’s make a difference locally. Vote for Green candidates to make a difference in Tameside this year and beyond.
Our candidates in Tameside
Lorraine Whitehead – Ashton Waterloo

My name is Lorraine Whitehead and I am extremely proud to have been selected as the Green Party candidate for Waterloo in the 2021 elections. Waterloo has been my home for most of my life. It’s the place I’ve grown up in, gone to school in and still reside in.
For a large number of years now I’ve worked in our community. I am the chairperson for The Friends of Waterloo and the monthly Waterloo forum. I also have the honour of being a trustee for The Richmond Street Community Centre and the Curzon Ashton foundation trust an amazing organisation that runs events for the residents of Waterloo and helps so many people to reach their full potential.
Waterloo is an amazing community that has been suffering from the problems facing many communities in these uncertain times. People are suffering after years of austerity, the dramatic effects of climate change and fears over the corona virus that’s been with us for over a year now. However we must push forward and help our community grow.
Recently I was delighted to receive an age friendly neighbour award on behalf of our wonderful hard working volunteers. Together before the pandemic we ran tea and tech sessions, over 50s lunches and a weekly advice surgery and knit and natter every Friday morning for 2 hours.
During this terrible year for all of us I’ve been extremely active in the community. Here are just a few of the things I’ve organised and participated in:
- Collecting donated food from Farmfoods and delivering to the Town house.
- Collecting Easter eggs and delivering to the food bank at Waterloo Primary school.
- Organising and participating in the Covid Emergency Support scheme and winter pressure fund.
- Becoming a Community champion providing information and support to vulnerable residents throughout the pandemic, also distributing 300 community news magazine to our over 50s areas.
- Becoming a qualified suicide first aider with vital suicide intervention skills.
- Shopping, collecting prescriptions and topping up energy cards for shielding residents.
- Partnering struggling residents with local shops, food outlets and meals on Wheels with food vouchers.
- Volunteering for Anthony Seddon in their shop on a market stall and with deliveries and fund raising.
- Working in Waterloo’s Community Garden.
- Collecting charity bags from residents while the shops were shut to help prevent fly tipping and items going to landfill and much more.
Together we can help to make Waterloo a community to be proud of and a place that our children can grow up in with a cleaner, greener and kinder environment.
